Matt Maher the Lord's Prayer

Matt Maher Puts Scripture to Song in “The Lord’s Prayer”

It’s one of the most familiar passages in all of the Bible. In what’s known as the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus takes a moment to talk about prayer. After instructing his audience to avoid lofty, babbling public prayers, He gives an example of how to pray. Throughout the last 2,000 years, people have memorized, recited and sung that prayer countless times. Yet God never tires of hearing it when it comes from our hearts. Now, Matt Maher puts the familiar prayer to a brand new tune, inviting worshippers once again to unite in prayer. “The Lord’s Prayer” is part of his latest album, “The Stories I Tell Myself.”

MATT MAHER ON THE LORD'S PRAYER

If you’ve ever found yourself feeling less than eloquent in your prayers, you’re not alone. Many believers feel as though they never have the right words. The good news is that we don’t need lengthy, impressive speech to approach our Heavenly Father. Maher reflects on the impact that knowledge makes in his daily prayer life:

I tend to overcomplicate things in my heart and in my soul. It’s simple. This prayer reminds me of that. I pray it every day with my family, and it always hits my heart in a different way. So if you need to go back to the basics, you can join billions of believers in echoing these words in your life and allow them to resonate.

THE SCRIPTURE FOR THE LORD'S PRAYER

the Lord's prayer scripture

Before hearing the song and singing along, take a moment to read through the source Scripture, the words Jesus Himself presented as a model for us to pray.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Amen.

Matthew 6:9b-13

LYRICS

Father let Your Kingdom come
Father let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart
Father let Your Kingdom come
Father let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart

Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive us, forgive us
As we forgive the ones who sinned against us
Forgive them
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from the evil one
Let Your kingdom come

It’s Yours, it’s Yours
All Yours, all Yours
The kingdom, the power, the glory are Yours
It’s Yours, it’s Yours
All Yours, all Yours
Forever and ever the kingdom is Yours
It’s Yours, it’s Yours
All Yours, all Yours
The kingdom, the power, the glory are Yours
It’s Yours, it’s Yours
All Yours, all Yours
Forever and ever the kingdom is Yours

Father let Your Kingdom come (Holy, holy)
Father let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven (Let it be done)
Right here in my heart (Here in my heart)
Father let Your Kingdom come (Holy, holy)
Father let Your will be done
On earth as in heaven (Let it be done)
Right here in my heart (Here in my heart)

On earth as in heaven
Right here in my heart
