Summer is officially upon us! Hey friends, it’s Mandy here! The first day of summer was this past weekend, but it was already feeling like it with temps previously creeping into the upper 80s. With summers being highly anticipated seasons for many in the Wilmington area, we took to Facebook and Instagram to get your feelings about it. However, listeners could use only three words.
Many friends are thrilled to see summer officially arrive. Here are some of the word trios provided by our most excited listeners:
- Jay: Happy Happy Happy!
- Nadalie: Beach, water, waves
- Geraldine: Sand, Surf, and Sun
- Mariana: Hot fun pool
- Charlotte: Fun fun fun!
- Paul: Not Long Enough
Others are not quite as happy to see summer. Their three words reflect the particularly uncomfortable weather and side effects with which locals must contend:
- Dwight: Hot, humid, mosquitoes
- Johanna: Swelter, sweat, and perspiration
- Becky: Hazy Hot Humid!!
- Judy: Sweat. Sweating. Sweatiest.
- Beth: Continuous hot flash!
- Jessi: Humid, hot, hurricanes
- Charles: It’s hot, yall!
An Unusual Summer
With the continuing spread of COVID-19, this summer may not look quite the same as previous years. Vacation Bible Schools are cancelled or shifted to online activities. Summer concerts and events are moved to the fall. Seasonal recreation opportunities may be unavailable for some time still.
However, this abnormal season of blistering heat is something to be thankful for. Those who know me are well aware that I hate summer. It’s just too hot. Plus, the humidity does awful things to my hair. I’m definitely more of a winter girl waiting for chances of snow to arrive once more. But in this crazy year of unknowns, I find such incredible comfort in the reminder that our God is still keeping this earth moving as He has since the beginning of time. He’s still bringing the sun and the rain, remaining the God of all creation.
“It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.” Psalm 74:17
Friends, we hope you and your family have a wonderful summer, no matter what’s going on in our world today. Keep your radio tuned to Life 90.5 all summer long for the encouragement to get you through it.
