Have you ever had a preschooler show you something truly profound? Recently I did an activity with some kids at my church, having them slowly unwrap a present that had several layers of gift wrap. As the older students grew anxious with every layer delicately removed, the preschoolers handled their wait completely different. They chose to cheer each other on. At each turn, there were many tiny cheers of “Go Ava!” and “Go Benjamin!” These littlest ones knew how to handle their waiting well. But do we Christian adults know how to wait for Jesus and His return with the right attitude? Grab your Bibles and buckle up for a journey through three key verses that shed light on our attitudes while we impatiently wait for the grand finale! –Mandy Bowman
WAIT FOR JESUS WITH HOPE
Dear fellow Christian, let’s take a page out of Micah’s book (or rather, scroll) and embrace the virtue of hope. Picture this: you’re waiting for a bus that’s running late. You could grumble, curse under your breath, or lament the inefficiency of public transportation. Or, you could choose a different path – one filled with hope. As believers, we trust that our God is not only present but attentive. So, let’s watch in hope, knowing that He hears our prayers, whether they’re about buses or grander matters. With hope as our guiding light, waiting can transform from a mundane ordeal to an opportunity for faith to flourish.
WAIT FOR JESUS WITH COMMUNITY
Now, let’s dive into the captivating words of the writer of Hebrews. This verse reminds us of the importance of community and mutual encouragement as we eagerly await Jesus’ return. Think of it as a Christian pep talk. We’re called to consider how we can inspire and motivate one another to love and do good deeds. In a world where isolation and self-centeredness often prevail, this verse nudges us to break the habit of neglecting our gatherings. We’re meant to come together, be each other’s cheerleaders, and fan the flames of faith as the Day approaches. So, my friends, let’s be intentional about fostering a supportive community, where encouragement is as abundant as the coffee at church gatherings.
WAIT FOR JESUS WITH ACTION
Congratulations, my faithful friend! You’ve made it to the final verse, and it’s a delightful reminder from Paul’s letter to the Galatians. In this struggle called life, it’s easy to become tired and disheartened, especially as the days of waiting for Jesus seem to stretch on indefinitely. But hold on, my friend! This verse assures us that our perseverance in doing good will not be in vain. Remember, we are not passive spectators merely twiddling our thumbs while we wait. We have work to do, faith to grow, and lives to impact. So, let’s keep pushing forward, sowing seeds of kindness, spreading love, and being the hands and feet of Jesus as obedient children of God. Trust that the harvest will come at the appointed time, and it will be worth every ounce of effort and every drop of sweat.
As Christians, our attitude while we wait for Jesus to return can make all the difference. With hope as our anchor, the power of community as our driving force, and perseverance as our fuel, we can navigate the waiting game with grace and purpose. So, my fellow believers, let’s watch in hope, cheer on other believers in our community, and persistently do good, knowing that our glorious harvest awaits us. And hey, while we’re at it, let’s make sure to bring some extra snacks for the potluck when Jesus finally shows up!
