A new trend has arisen in recent years as an alternative to the typical New Years resolution. Let’s be honest – our resolutions are more like casual promises to ourselves that we are under no legal obligation to fulfill. So how about a single word instead? One word to direct what we want to develop in our hearts during the year 2020?
Many listeners have already given us their one word for the year…
Kim – Forgiveness
Judy – Thankful
Joyce – LOVE
Angie – Praise
Donna – Balance
Laurie – Listen
Others expounded on their “one word” with some explanations.
Julie texted us, saying “My word is MORE!! For 2 reasons… The first one is that Ephesians 3:20 says my God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly MORE than I can ask or even think. Since I am believing God to do some really big things this year, I’m holding on to MORE! The second reason is because I need MORE of God and less of me every single day.”
Cynthia texted, saying “I couldn’t think of a word for me so I tried asking the Lord and waited a few seconds and LISTEN came to my mind. That is not a word I would have chosen since I talk so much so I’m thinking maybe The Holy Spirit actually picked it for me.”
Does focusing on a single word for this New Year sound like a good idea to you? But you still don’t know what word to pick? Pastor Mike Ashcraft from Port City Community Church shared an easy way to determine your word.
