Don’t Stop Praying: Matthew West’s Latest Faith-building Reminder

Since the 2003 release of his song “More,” Matthew West has been a staple on Christian radio and faith-filled songwriting. Over the last two decades, his songs have encouraged countless people to lean in to the love of the Lord and to fix our eyes on Jesus. His latest song “Don’t Stop Praying” is no exception. Keep reading to find encouragement in Matthew’s comments about the song, Scripture passages that remind us to pray, and then listen to the song for yourself.

MATTHEW WEST ON “DON’T STOP PRAYING”

When the song was released just days after New Years 2024, Matthew shared this note on his social media:

Every year I land on a personal theme that becomes a mission statement for my own faith journey. This year’s theme is don’t stop praying. We’ve all been to a place where discouragement can make us wonder if God really hears our prayers. I wrote this song for anybody who’s ever felt like giving up or losing their faith. I couldn’t be more excited to start the new year off with this new song. I hope it encourages anyone who hears it to join me in a commitment to prayer in 2024. Pray for our families, for our friends, for our enemies, for our nation, for our world. God hears the prayers of his people, so don’t stop praying.

Maybe you need to join Matthew in that commitment this year. If so, we’ve got some passages from God’s word to remind you of the power of prayer.

PASSAGES ON PRAYER

don't stop praying passages

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6

If you struggle with worry, God tells us that we can trade that anxious feeling for His astounding peace through the practice of prayer. What a beautiful invitation to bring those concerns, big or small, to the feet of Jesus! He’s the only one with the power to do anything about our worries anyways, so why wait? Why delay the peace He wants to give you?

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Not only is frequent prayer good for your anxieties, but it’s also God’s will for you! More than just a suggestion, “don’t stop praying” is part of a divine trilogy that should be part of our everyday lives. Combined with praise and thanksgiving, it’s part of walking in obedience to the Father.

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” – Colossians 4:2

Committing to prayer this year doesn’t mean praying and immediately forgetting about what you prayed because you expect nothing to happen. Colossians tells us that after prayer, be on the lookout for how He’s going to answer! Watch for what He’s going to do, and go ahead and thank Him for His response ahead of time.

SONG LYRICS

What’s your impossible? Your “I need a miracle”
What’s got you barely hanging by a single thread?
What looks so hopeless now? What weighs down your heart with doubt?
You beg for a breakthrough, but no sign of breakthrough yet

When you’ve cried, and you’ve cried ’til your tears run dry
The answer won’t come, and you don’t know why
And you wonder if you can bow your head even one more time

Don’t stop praying
Don’t stop calling on Jesus’ name
Keep on pounding on Heaven’s door
And let your knees wear out the floor
Don’t stop believing
‘Cause mountains move with just a little faith
And your Father’s heard every single word you’re saying
So, don’t stop praying

He’s close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit
The Alpha and Omega knows how your story ends
When you’ve cried, and you’ve cried ’til your tears run dry
The answer won’t come, and you don’t know why
And you wonder if you can bow your head even one more time
Oh, do it one more time

Oh-oh
(Don’t stop, don’t stop praying) oh, don’t stop praying
(Don’t stop, don’t stop praying)
Oh-oh

Don’t stop praying for the prodigal
Don’t stop praying for the miracle
Hallelujah, hallelujah, and amen
Don’t stop praying that addictions end
Don’t stop praying for deliverance
Hallelujah, hallelujah, and amen

Oh, don’t stop praying for the sickness healed
Don’t stop praying for His power revealed
Hallelujah, hallelujah, and amen
No, don’t stop praying for the Kingdom come
Don’t stop praying that His will be done
Hallelujah, hallelujah, and amen
