Crowder Rocks with New Song “Grave Robber”

If you’ve listened to contemporary Christian music for any length of time, you’ve undoubtedly heard a Crowder song. “Good God Almighty” has been a hit for the last couple years, but you might also remember “How He Loves” from 2009. If you’ve been listening for longer than that, you’d know that he was once the lead of the “David Crowder Band” with songs like “Open Skies” in 2003. Now more than 2 decades later, he’s still delivering songs that remind us of the power of God. “Grave Robber” is his latest upbeat release and already a favorite among Life 90.5 DJs. Read on to discover what inspired the song, then listen and explore the lyrics overflowing with testimony of what God has been doing for ages.

CROWDER ON GRAVE ROBBER

On social media, here’s what Crowder himself had to say about the song:

It’s right out of one of my favorite stories in all the bible, the story of lazarus. It’s insane, a crazy story. The guy’s been dead like 4 days, and his friend Jesus shows up. He’s got his other pals there, like Mary and Martha are there. Martha’s like, “man, Jesus, if you woulda just shown up sooner, this wouldn’t have happened. But,” then she says this, it’s incredible, “But, you can do anything.” So what does he do? He calls Lazarus out of the grave. And that’s what the song is for me. Doesn’t matter what you’re against in life, doesn’t matter how bleak it feels, Jesus can conquer anything. If he can conquer death, if the resurrection is for real (which it is), then He’s got you.

GRAVE ROBBER LYRICS

I used to live like a rebel, didn’t wanna behave
Thought a wretch like me couldn’t ever be saved
But everything changed, I remember the day
When I heard Him calling my name

Like a thief in the night
He snuck in, took my life
I was dead, now I’m alive and singing

I got stolen by the grave robber
Picked me up from that rock bottom
Washed my soul in that Holy water
Brought me back to life (brought me back to life)
One more stone rolled away
One more sinner been saved by grace
This dead man, he ain’t dead no longer
All because of that grave robber (grave robber, grave robber, yeah)

Maybe you’re the one thinking that you’ll never be right
Even though your mama praying for you every night
Praying Jesus gonna find you and open your eyes
Well, maybe right now’s that time

Like a thief in the night
He’ll sneak in, take your life
That resurrection gonna have you singing

Taking my sin, taking my shame
Breaking my soul out of these chains
I’m a dead man living and God did it
Taking my sin, taking my shame
Breaking my soul out of these chains
I’ve been forgiven and God did it

I got stolen by the grave robber
Picked me up from that rock bottom
Washed my soul in that Holy water
Brought me back to life

Picked me up from that rock bottom (rock bottom)
Washed my soul in that Holy water
Brought me back to life (brought me back to life)
One more stone rolled away
One more sinner been saved by grace (saved by grace)
This dead man, he ain’t dead no longer
All because of that grave robber

Jesus is the rock, and he rolls my grave away (all because of that grave robber)
Jesus is the rock and he-
All because of that grave robber

  1. This describes me for sure. He saved me from a drunken life of pain and sin. He guided me to a program of sobriety. I stayed sober for a long time looking for a spiritual path. Searching churches, searching, self-help, searching. I brought Jesus Christ back into my life and I found joy, serenity, peace and gratitude that He saved my life. Praise Him!!
