Chris Tomlin Holy Forever

Chris Tomlin’s New “Holy Forever” Continues an Ancient, Eternal Song

If you’ve been in church at all for the last 20 years, you’ve more than likely heard a Chris Tomlin song or two. His worship anthems like “How Great Is Our God” and “Good Good Father” have captured the hearts of worshippers across the world for years. Now, from his latest album “Always” comes another song just released to radio, “Holy Forever.” Before we listen to the song together, let’s check out what Chris himself had to say about it.

CHRIS TOMLIN ON “HOLY FOREVER”

His latest worship album containing this new radio release was dropped in September of 2022. Here’s what Chris had to say about the entire project.

These songs were written with the intention of helping people connect with God And already throughout just the beginning of this process, with the songwriters, our families and friends, and the incredible team that helps bring these songs to the world, I have started to see God take these songs and impact hearts and lives. My prayer is that God continues to take this music and use it in ways I could have never imagined… in ways only He could and in that, points the glory back to Him.

Chris Tomlin Always

Here’s what Chris tells Christian Post about his latest radio release, “Holy Forever.”

I just tried to capture a piece of Heaven in this song that never ends, this eternal song. What's amazing is that there is an eternal song and we know the lyrics. It’s 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.' That's what the Bible says throughout, and in Revelation, it says, 'Day and night, they never stopped saying it.'

Tomlin pulls directly from an unusual scene in Revelation 4, depicting worship in heaven at the throne of God. The whole chapter is a mind-blowing read for beyond our human understanding, but verses 6-8 describe the angels and their neverending proclamation.

In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back. The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty— the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

Strange, right? While we may not be able to fully comprehend this scene recorded by the apostle John, we can still join that chorus now. With Chris Tomlin, we can practice today what we’ll be singing at his throne for the rest of eternity.

“HOLY FOREVER” SONG

“HOLY FOREVER” LYRICS

A thousand generations falling down in worship
To sing the song of ages to the Lamb
And all who’ve gone before us and all who will believe
Will sing the song of ages to the Lamb

Your name is the highest
Your name is the greatest
Your name stands above them all
All thrones and dominions
All powers and positions
Your name stands above them all

And the angels cry, Holy
All creation cries, Holy
You are lifted high, Holy
Holy forever

If you’ve been forgiven and if you’ve been redeemed
Sing the song forever to the Lamb
If you walk in freedom and if you bear His name
Sing the song forever to the Lamb
We’ll sing the song forever and amen

And the angels cry, Holy
All creation cries, Holy
You are lifted high, Holy
Holy forever

Hear your people sing, Holy
To the King of Kings, Holy
You will always be, Holy
Holy forever

Your name is the highest
Your name is the greatest
Your name stands above them all
All thrones and dominions
All powers and positions
Your name stands above them all

Jesus
Your name is the highest
Your name is the greatest
Your name stands above them all (stands above)
All thrones and dominions
All powers and positions
Your name stands above them all

And the angels cry, Holy
All creation cries, Holy
You are lifted high, Holy
Holy forever (forever)

Hear your people sing, (we will sing) Holy
To the King of Kings, (holy) Holy (holy is the Lord)
You will always be, Holy
Holy forever

You will always be, Holy
Holy forever

  1. There is something about this song that evokes a sadness in me. I feel it as a longing to be in heaven with God and all my loved ones who have gone before me. Even writing this now, I feel choked up. I was wondering if anyone else had this feeling. The song is so beautiful.

  2. Holy forever is a beautiful, uplifting song but then again all of Chris Tomlin’s songs are without a doubt the best in inspiring/ uplifting music of all time. With Holy Forever he once again outdid himself. Like he does everytime he releases a new song.!!!!!!

  3. This is maybe the greatest song I’ve ever heard because it transports me to the throne of God. We can truly start living in heaven on earth. I picture myself there with all the Angels and saints lifting hands and praising God. We don’t have to wait till we die 🙂
