Nearly every time the worship song “Gratitude” plays on Life 90.5, there’s a flurry of texts into the studio line:
“Thank you for playing this song!”
“Who sings this??”
“I love this song!”
You’re welcome. It’s Brandon Lake. And we love it, too. We’ll share the song with you in a moment, but first, let’s take a look at the problem Lake addresses in this powerful worship song, plus some commands and reasons from Scripture to praise the Lord.
THE PROBLEM WITH GRATITUDE
In the first lines of the song, Lake expresses a question felt by many believers… “how could I express my gratitude?” When we take a moment to step back and look at all the Lord has done for us, we’re undoubtedly left feeling emotional at the gifts we don’t deserve. At the same time, It can create a feeling of insufficiency. We don’t deserve what we’ve been given, and there’s no way to effectively show Him all the gratitude that He indeed deserves. Certainly we praise Him, and we try to obey His word and let Him transform us into the image of His Son. But will it ever be enough to show the gratitude He deserves? Nope. So what should we do?
THE SOLUTION? PRAISE ANYWAY!

Lake has the perfect response to his own question posed… “So I throw up my hands and praise You again and again.” He encourages both himself and other believers to keep on praising Him, much like David did in the Psalms.
Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.Psalm 103:1-5
Did you catch all those reasons to praise God? There was forgiveness, healing, redemption, love, compassion, etc. And that’s only in a small section of God’s word! Just imagine how many reasons you’d have if you perused more of His Word in addition to all the things He’s done in your own life.
He deserves every single word of praise we can give Him. So listen to Life 90.5 and praise Him along with us and your favorite songs every day.

GRATITUDE LYRICS
All my words fall short
I got nothing new
How could I express
All my gratitude?
I could sing these songs
As I often do
But every song must end
And You never do
So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a hallelujah
Hallelujah
And I know it’s not much
But I’ve nothing else fit for a King
Except for a heart singing hallelujah
Hallelujah
I’ve got one response
I’ve got just one move
With my arm stretched wide
I will worship You
So come on, my soul
Oh, don’t you get shy on me
Lift up your song
‘Cause you’ve got a lion inside of those lungs
Get up and praise the Lord
